wordimpression Privacy Notice

The wordimpression Chrome extension provides vocabulary annotations, saved vocabulary, review, read-aloud controls, and optional local live captions on webpages you choose to use it with.

Website Content and Learning Data

To provide annotations, the extension processes words visible on the current webpage and, when needed, the surrounding sentence. It sends lookup terms, words you choose to save, review results, and necessary context to the learning service you configure. An account session is stored only in the extension's local browser storage and identifies your account to that service.

Accounts and Subscription

The subscription page uses your email address as your account identifier and stores a salted password hash, never the password itself. One-time verification codes are used only to set or reset a password and verify an email change. To enforce the one-trial-per-email rule after account closure, we retain a one-way email digest separate from the closed account. Subscription records contain the plan, amount, order status, payment time, and refund status. WeChat Pay handles payments; wordimpression does not store bank card or WeChat Pay credentials.

On-device Features

Read-aloud uses speech capabilities supplied by Chrome and the operating system. Live captions use the local assistant running on your computer by default; audio is not sent to the hosted learning service. If you change the local assistant address, you are responsible for reviewing that service's privacy practices.

How Data Is Used

We use this data only to provide and improve the vocabulary-learning features requested by you. We do not sell your learning data. You can sign out from the extension side panel and contact us to request help with server-side learning records.

Third-party Processing

Email verification codes are sent through the email provider configured by the service administrator. Payments and refund requests are sent to WeChat Pay. Only when you enable context-aware meanings and that capability is configured can eligible words and their surrounding sentence be sent to the configured language-model provider. Specialized domain meanings do not use that capability.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

wordimpression's use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use or transfer Chrome user data for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or any purpose unrelated to the extension's user-facing vocabulary features.
